European Championships Format

The format for the European Championship remains the same. The tournament may take place in different countries, but it’s still a group-stage format with a round of 16, quarter final, semifinal, and final.

There will be 6 groups with 4 teams in each one. Group winners, runners-up, and 4 best-placed third teams will advance to the round of 16. Each national team will have a squad of 23 players with 3 goalkeepers. All teams that will qualify must decide on the squad at least 10 days before the tournament begins.

The group stage schedule begins on June 11 with Matchday 1 and will end on June 23 with Matchday 3. After that, the knockout stage will take place. Bookies have already ousted the odds to win Euro 2020, and thanks to our guide, you’ll have a clearer idea of who to pick.

Coronavirus Update: from Euro 2020 to Euro 2021

As mentioned earlier, the Euro 2020 was originally scheduled to take place from 12 June to 12 July 2020. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic struck Europe just before it, UEFA made a decision to postpone the tournament for summer 2021. It was not a decision to be taken lightly, but the tournament was postponed to reduce pressure on public service in affected countries. Furthermore, many European leagues were brought to a standstill which caused further complications.

Qualifying was already finished when the decision was made, with only a few places up for grabs in the League of Nations. Once that was out of the way and with COVID-19 vaccination already taking shape, the new tournament was scheduled for 11 June-11 July 2021.

It will still retain the name Euro 2020. The opening match will be between Turkey and Italy at Stadio Olimpico, although it’s still unclear if there will be any viewers.

The teams that will face each other in group A are Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, and Wales. It’s quite an interesting group that will also give the first match in the tournament when Italy faces Turkey in one of the host cities Rome. Italy is not among the major favorites to win the European Championship, but it is among the most quality teams in the tournament. At the moment, bookies give the Italians 12/1 odds to win in the final and the best odds to top Group A.

Mancini has rejuvenated Italy's squad

Italy's national team

Italy's national team has blossomed since Roberto Mancini's arrival.

Switzerland is the second big favorite for the top, followed by Wales and Turkey. The last are considered underdogs and are not widely expected to progress. According to current UEFA Euro 2020 predictions, Wales has the tiniest chances to progress at 4/2, with Turkey’s odds being 8/13. If you ask experts, Italy and Switzerland are almost clear favorites to qualify for the last 16.

Group B features Belgium, Russia, Denmark, and Finland. It’s another interesting group where the overwhelming favorite is clear. Belgium is in the top 3 favorites to win the Euros. Their Euro 2021 winner odds are 6/1, just behind the two main favorites England and France with identical odds of 5/1.

Kevin De Bruyne

The second place is up for grabs between the three other nations. The odds are in favor of Denmark (1/4), with Russia and Finland standing at 2/5 and 2/1 respectively. Denmark is a favorite for the second spot, but if UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying scores against direct opponents Belgium cast doubts over the Danes’ performance.

Group C is headlined by the Netherlands who are making a return to the European Championships after several years of inconsistency. The Dutch squad will face Ukraine, Austria, and North Macedonia in a highly entertaining group that may be very exciting to follow.

Frank de Boer

Bookies are clear regarding the favorites in this group – the Netherlands and Ukraine. The Dutch are given odds in the 1/50 area and are also one of the Euro 2020 betting odds favorites for the title (12/1). Ukraine will most likely finish second, followed by the outsiders Austria and North Macedonia. Considering that North Macedonia just beat Germany in the World Cup qualifiers and Austria has had a nice run recently, they are only outsiders on paper, so anything can happen on the pitch.

Group D will certainly be exciting from a fan’s point of view. It features the leading Euro 2021 winner favorites England (5/1) as well as Croatia, the Czech Republic, and Scotland. Croatia and England will battle it out for the top spot, with not a lot of chances given to the Czechs and Scotland.

Gareth Southgate

England is the top favorite at 1/50, while Croatia’s odds are 2/7. England’s fearless striker Harry Kane is the top favorite for best goalscorer too, so this young English squad has a lot of promise to live up to.

Of course, the Croats will be there to disrupt the English from reaching the round of 16. The Czech Republic can make life tough for both top nations, with the Scots being the major outsider.

Spain will square off against Sweden, Poland, and Slovakia in Group E. While the Spaniards are the top betting favorite for the group and the tournament, they will likely be tested by Poland and Sweden. Slovakia is an outsider, but the young squad can also be tricky to face.

Robert Lewandowski had one of the best seasons of his career

Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski is ready to lead Poland to Euro 2021.

Spain is not the heavy favorite it was a decade ago. However, it’s still a great team that the best online bookmakers are giving odds of 1.50 to win the group. Poland sits second with odds of 4/9, while Sweden is third with 8/15. The Swedish odds might get a bit better if Zlatan Ibrahimovic decides to play.

Slovakia has the slimmest chances of progress with odds of 3/2. If you follow Euro 2020 tips, you’ll see that Spain’s chances to win Group E are too big to ignore. Spain is one of the nations that might win it all, with top online bookmakers giving them odds of 8/1 to lift the trophy.

The final group consists of Portugal, France, Germany, and Hungary. It really is the group of death where the top spot will be up for grabs. The best online bookmakers have France and Germany as the favorites at 1/12, with Portugal lurking behind at 1/6. Hungary is given virtually no chances at 11/2.

The French are the reigning world champions

Team France

Didier Deschamps led France to victory at the Euros as captain and now dreams of repeating his achievement as head coach.

France is the Euro 2020 betting favorite too along with England. While Germany may not be the force it was from 5-6 years ago, it’s still a tough team to play. Portugal enters this group as the current European champion and will have a tough time to progress further. That will largely depend on the form of Cristiano Ronaldo who’s a major favorite for the top goalscorer trophy at 10/1.

When it comes to Hungary, it’s a great team, but in our opinion, it’s a case of better luck next time with this lot.

England Euro 2020 Betting Tips & Odds

England is the top Euro 2020 betting favorite along with France. Both nations have odds of 5/1 which is ahead of the others including Germany and current champions Portugal. The rejuvenated England squad led by Gareth Southgate performed admirably in the 2018 World Cup, coming close to a spot in the final.

That performance is the reason why bookies believe in England’s chances at the Euros. If you follow Euro 2020 tips, you know that England is a favorite for nearly any match it plays. Southgate’s boys have exceeded all expectations, which isn’t such a surprise for experts if you take a look at the squad.

England Squad Prediction on Euro 2020

It will be tough to get the England Euro 2020 squad prediction right with so many in-form English players right now. The great news is that there are no major injuries so far, so Harry Kane will definitely lead the front line. Southgate will have a lot of sweet trouble to pick his 23-man squad. Jordan Pickford and Harry Kane are cemented in their respective spots, but there are many young players that deserve a chance in the squad.

It is almost certain for Harry Maguire, Alexander Trent-Arnold, and Kyle Walker to make the cut. Luke Shaw should be there too after a solid season with United. Jordan Henderson should be the key midfielder if fit, with Declan Rice and Mason Mount also in the mix. Sterling, Kane, and Rashford should be the main attacking trio, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin will also be an option. We must not forget Jadon Sancho who will certainly feature in some capacity.

In terms of contenders, there are plenty fighting for a place in the first 11. Tyrone Mings, Conor Coady, John Stones, James Maddison, Ben Chilwell, and Arsenal’s emerging star Bukayo Saka will definitely be in the mix. Phil Foden has had an impressive season with Manchester City and deserves a spot too.

Southgate will have his hands full, but with only 23 players fitting the squad, some will miss these Euros.

Who will win Euro 2020?

As mentioned earlier, the outright odds for the tournament are in full swing. All you need to do is head to your favorite bookie and put your money on the national squad you believe has the highest chances to win.

Who are the favourites to win Euro 2020?

If you ask bookies, England, France, and Belgium are the three main contenders for the trophy.

England — Odds of 5/1

If the tournament took place 5 years ago, England would be nowhere near the top of the favorites. However, things have changed a lot in the past few years, and the great performance at the 2018 World Cup has made the young English squad a top favorite for the Euro 2021 trophy.

England is given odds of 5/1 just like France to get to the final and go all the way.

France — Odds of 5/1

France has the same odds as England and that’s no surprise. Les Bleus have played the best football in the past 4-5 years, finishing second at Euro 2016 to Portugal and winning the World Cup two years later. With Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Antoine Griezmann upfront, they have a great attack that fears no defense.

Belgium — Odds of 6/1

Depending on whom you ask, Belgium is either close or far away from the two top favorites. Bookies place the Belgians third on the list with odds in the area of 6/1. That’s pretty close, and pretty accurate if you ask us.

Pound-for-pound, Belgium may have the best square in the tournament and may go all the way. A lot of it will depend on Eden Hazard’s performance who has had a dismal few seasons with Real Madrid.

Who are the Euro 2020 underdogs?

The Euro 2020 betting odds clearly indicate several underdogs who can challenge the top-3 favorites for the trophy, including past Euro winners.

Germany — Odds of 7/1

Germany is not the juggernaut it was before, but it’s nevertheless a pretty strong squad. The outright odds for Die Mannschaft are 7/1 which is pretty close to Belgium. However, recent performances don’t suggest a positive outcome for the Germans who need to play their best football in recent years to advance from their tough group.

Italy — Odds of 11/2

Just like the Netherlands, Italy is a former juggernaut that can only feature as a Euro 2020 betting odds underdog. Currently, the Italians have odds of 11/2 which is more or less equal to the Netherlands.

Portugal — Odds of 8/1

Euro 2020 Top Scorers Odds

The top scorer market is one of the most popular markets at any Euros. It’s the same with this tournament, with four brilliant footballers gunning for the reward.

Kylian Mbappe — Odds of 10/1

Is Mbappe Europe’s most lethal striker? Betting sites and football prediction blogs certainly think so, giving him odds of 10/1 to win the Golden Boot. Those are longer than Harry Kane’s, but after another great season with PSG, Mbappe is expected to light up the Euros.

Raheem Sterling — Odds of 18/1

The England Euro 2020 Squad prediction has listed Sterling in and he should be an option up front. However, sparse playing time for Manchester City in recent months is casting doubts over his performance. Sterling is currently an underdog on the Golden Boot outright odds list with 18/1, a far cry from the top.

Robert Lewandowski — Odds of 25/1

Lewandowski has been the deadliest strike in Europe for years, but he has disappointing Golden Boot outright odds at 25/1. That’s mostly due to his recent injury that will keep him out of action for a month. His recovery is pretty close to the final tournament, which is why he’s given short odds for the prestigious reward.

Cristiano Ronaldo — Odds of 9/1

Even at age 36, Ronaldo is one of the Euro qualifiers top scorers and a big favorite for the Euro Golden Boot. His odds are 9/1 which is a pretty good pick for your money and he rarely fails to deliver.

Kylian Mbappe — Odds of
10/1
Raheem Sterling — Odds of
18/1
Robert Lewandowski — Odds of
25/1
Cristiano Ronaldo — Odds of
9/1
